Coron (Hace 5 meses) #43908108So I was right after all..
saved me quite the disappointment there, I never really considered to use the EAN to check if it's a bootleg.
    thanks a lot!

Yeah, I frequently check the barcodes - unless the bootlegger has photocopied the original product, they often make a fake barcode or nick one from a different product. Most bootleggers don't tend to know how barcodes work, so frequently screw up some aspect of it. Searching a genuine barcode will usually return a handful of legitimate shop results. MFC will also have the JANs for anything vaguely popular (if it has one - the major exception is prize figures).

One bootleg I saw at a con had a total approximation of a barcode - just a bunch of lines made to sort of look like one. That made me laugh.

Do these two look real or fake to you guys? The seller (from a Swedish auction site) says they bought them at a con around 2009, and thus aren't really sure if they're bootlegs or not themselves. The con part sets off alarm bells, but, if you take the bad lighting in mind, I think they look pretty legit.

After some deliberation I'm going to go with bootleg. First thing that is noticeable is the lack of authenticity sticker - there should be one on the top-right for both figures. Both having them missing is a bad sign.

Next I noticed one of the pieces in the right-hand box is in the incorrect place - admittedly if it has been opened, then things can be misplaced, but if these are supposed to be sealed, this is a bad sign. It looks like the item has been placed on her hand, rather than in its proper accessory slot.

The thing that makes me say "bootleg" is the print alignment is off in various places, coupled with the lack of stickers. This is a genuine box, courtesy of Terraformer. Note how the tip of the star on the bottom of the packaging touches the bottom of the window in the legitimate product, but not on the suspect one (and other genuine box pics there isn't variance in print alignment). When you notice that, you'll notice the text is "off" enough at the top, that I don't think this'd pass QA for a genuine item. Now looking at the back of the right-hand box, the print alignment is also off here - the top of the "k" has got sliced off due to it. Pretty sure the back of the box on the right hand one is slightly off to the left, but can't find a genuine pic of the back to confirm. Whichever way you slice it, you've got 2 very similar box designs, but the alignments aren't the same, which is a bad sign.

This looks like a bootleg. Besides the ‘mistakes’ that are already pointed out i see some difference in the parts that the figures are supposed to hold. The colouring on the boxes you photographed are looking plain.
Edit: the face looks off. I wouldn’t risk buying these.

Thank you both! I asked the seller for more pictures to double check, but yeah, they're most likely fake.

Wanted some help b/c I've been searching for ITEM#165225 by 1000toys and this seller on Amazon is selling it for $77. The retail of it (shipping included) was $150, Amazon has free shipping. This seller seems to have mixed reviews with their body kun/chans and is based in China. So I'm a bit wary that it might be a bootleg... I'm not sure if they're even covered by Amazon either.

    Link: www.amazon.com/...

The only review on this item was a 4-5 star but I have no idea if that person even knows if it's real or bootleg. The body series seems to have issues with the seller, a mix of reviews saying counterfeit and real versions. Not sure if I want to take that risk, especially b/c I know those are stock photos from the site.

Yes, there is a bootleg of that figure, and I would avoid that seller like the plague. There's at least one person who says outright Tulas sent them a bootleg, and several other concerning feedback comments, so that's a sign they're likely ALL bootlegs. The one feedback on there doesn't sound like someone familiar with figures to me, so I wouldn't trust it.

With the seller also "stripping" the manufacturer by creating their own listing, this is a bad sign too. I'd definitely give this listing a miss.

    Hello,

I bought ITEM #267 from one of MFC official partners.

    http://puu.sh/CyeaO/1c168e62ed.jpg

I have problem with color of the box. It is blue. I can't find on internet any photo showing that color of box can be blue. It is always green. To say more I have another one with green box.
So did I buy very expensive bootleg? :|

I'd say no - there seems to be a couple of similar box shots in the gallery on MFC - picture/7785&am...

Also the bootleg shown on MFC doesn't have the line all the way up on her stomach, but yours does.

    Hi,

So, I bought ITEM #500291 from TOM some months back. Then, recently while trying to assemble it, my clumsy self snapped off the straps for the garters. So I bought the figure again from Mandarake. I know Mandarake states they don't sell bootlegs (I've bought from them many times with no issues). However, when I opened the box, the base for the figure looked like this:

    https://i.ibb.co/yq14JqK/20190115-225245.jpg

Now, since I owned this figure before, I know the peg on the base is supposed to be metal. You can also see this in user photos on the figure's MFC page.

Here are some other photos of the figure and the box.

    i.ibb.co/9VmMwf...

    i.ibb.co/3yx6Q4...

    i.ibb.co/MkNfZm...

    i.ibb.co/hH4HkT...

    i.ibb.co/TrwbLR...

    i.ibb.co/30NhzT...

    i.ibb.co/gjQXq3...

So, I contacted Mandarake, and GSC support to ask if this figure could possibly be a bootleg, because I couldn't think of any other explanation for the figure's foot peg being totally wrong.

Mandarake wasn't sure and asked me to contact GSC support (already done).

GSC support, after I sent them all these pictures, wrote back:

    "Dear Customer

    Thank you for your reply.

We inspected your pictures, however we are not sure the item was authentic or boot leg.
Actually the base design was different from us but the box looks authentic therefore we hardly examine to your issue.

We are terribly sorry that we can not help you in this matter but we appreciated your understanding.

    Regards,
    Godo Smile Company customer support
    /c"

SO, if GSC doesn't even know if this is a bootleg or not, I'm not sure what that says. They are right, the box does look authentic, however the box was sealed when I received it. So what kind of explanation is there for this? Does anyone know? I still feel kind of sketched out by this figure though, the fact that it doesn't look like the real thing kind of bothers me. I'm not sure if it would be worth it trying to seek a refund from Mandarake (don't want to get banned by them), but I also don't feel like trying to buy this figure a 3rd time (maybe I should just give up on Sonico, lol...)

I did some research on what bootleg(s) were available for this figure, and all I can find is the one with the white, round base and that one also does not include the large part of her dress.

The figure itself, from what I can see in your pics, exceeds the quality of a bootleg. I'd also agree that the box is NOT bootleg. As you have another one of these, as you're querying the base more than the figure, that would suggest this figure is similar? Even the good bootlegs I've got, side by side, you can see the differences.

So here is my theory: this is a manufacturing defect. Someone forgot to place the metal rod in the mould prior to injecting the plastic, so the entire thing got made as plastic. Kind of surprises me this made it through assembly without being tossed, but either at least two people didn't give a fuck when this base was manufactured, or there was a batch made like this and possibly was a reason behind some of the delay for this figure.

What do you mean by "...the fact that it doesn't look like the real thing kind of bothers me." Does it look like a bootleg to you? If so, can you provide better pictures of what bothers you exactly apart from the peg problem?

I would agree on that. From the pictures moonstarfc uploaded Sonico looks pretty authentic to me.
Another possibility could be that someone resealed the figure and sold this figure to manda (or Manda itself resealed the figure). Happened to me twice and I can tell for sure that I got resealed figures. Both Items were stated as UNOPENED/ NOT OPENED and also arrived in sealed condition (I bought them not at the same time.). But the tape on the blister were already cut through. Any tape issues with your figure moonstarfc? (I know this possibility sounds stupid because why would anyone change the peg and resale her. XD But who knows.)

Hello, it's my first time here! I also need help.

I recently bought this used Evangelion "Asuka & Rei" Kotobukiya figure (ITEM #450) from someone in the states who sold it without the box. When it came in, I noticed these "imperfections". They range from scratches, blotches, smudges, dents and crusty stains (on the base). They also came coated in large particulate specks (at least these I could brush off).

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/LuminousMerch1553489815.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/LuminousMerch1553489808.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/LuminousMerch1553489810.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/LuminousMerch1553489812.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/LuminousMerch1553489814.jpeg

Do these appear to be typical manufacturing defects, signs of wear, or signs of a bootleg? The seller denies that it's a bootleg or that he wore it down from use. He also became very agitated and launched a tirade. There is a bootleg indicator on the MFC profile, but people doubt that one actually exists.

    Hello,
From the pic I think it's legit figure, not a bootleg. This is a very old figure from the time were such manufacturing defect are found even in my figures.
Please keep expectations of opened displayed old figures of 2006 -2009 era to lower standards. Please provide more pics of complete figure to determine.

If this imperfections are a problem then you might want to return it back to seller and get a refund.

I bought a Yabuki Kentaro Sh Figuarts from Amazon under the seller eknight-media. In the description they say they sell authentic figures only. Also along with 46k feedback and 99%, I decided to purchase it off their store.

I received the figure today, and the package wasn't in good condition. Also when looking at the figure from outside the box, it had like a black dot stain on the right breast. I started wondering if it was opened before. When I opened it, the booklet that came with the figure was upside down.

For the figure, it definitely has some black dots around the figure. Not many, but you do notice them. Especially on a pale orange color version. Also on the figures back it says Bandai and then China on it.

It looked exactly like this figure posted on myfigurecollection.

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Kulizac-71511967698.jpeg

Anyone who has a Pale Orange version, or knows anyone who has one can confirm that the black dots on the figure is just a defect? I bought it for $60 student prime, and I'm going to return it for sure if it's fake.

On the back of the package, there's a silver sticker that says Tamashii Nations.

The black dots look exactly like this one picture here on this site.

It is my first time here, I bought a figure on ebay from a seller named senomarch. The figure was announced as authentic bought from Kotobukiya USA store (kotous.com). When I received the figure I noticed the sticker seem in most boxes on top right was missing. But instead there is a big sticker in the bottom that says "SALES OUTSIDE JAPAN ONLY". Curious to know if it is legit or not, I did not want to open the figure as I plan to keep it sealed in the box for now.
here follows images of the glass face area and sticker:

This is normal for Genco products - they only want their sticker on domestically distributed goods and it is seemingly a requirement for non-domestically distributed goods to have this label/box instead. If you look up the figma or Nendo of her, you'll likely find the same sticker.
