kuailiangHace 4 meses#77813496Just out of curiosity, how long has airmail taken from Japan to the UK since Japan Post's restrictions, once it hits the "dispatched from outward office of exchange" point?

Had one arrive today. Took 10 days between outward office of exchange to Langley.

turnmebackwardsHace 4 meses#77814839Airmail between 2 to 4 weeks for parcels to me in the UK. Had two go missing maybe said to be posted 2nd and 3rd weeks of March 2020.
EMS had a parcel in a week last week.
Seamail sent on 11th March 2020 still waiting ;(

Wow you've had quite a wait then; Seamail you're going to be waiting a while. The one and only time I used Seamail it took bang on 70 days for my package to arrive. It's reliable but not good if you want your items badly enough.

Not too bad then; I'm assuming I'll be waiting around the 2 week mark. Some of my packages have been dispatched from the outward office exchange as of the 3rd of this month, so I've still got a bit of waiting to do.

I was just wondering if SAL Parcel is still an OK delivery method when shipping to the UK? I could wait, given the extended deadline from AmiAmi - but they are still offering SAL Parcel. I usually go for SAL Registered which has of course, been temporarily suspended.

All forms of SAL are suspended so if it's due to ship out before SAL is back, then they'll switch it to air or EMS, depending what is cheaper (certain size/weight combos, EMS can be cheaper than air parcel).

    kuailiangHace 4 mesesSnip.

If anyone wanted to know for reference, at least within the London area, 3 packages of mine left Japan on the 3rd, and arrived into the UK on the 9th.

Seems that the only difference between now and pre-pandemic is that it's taking a couple days longer to leave Japan, and to reach the UK.

Even though I've had 8 packages posted the same day by my proxy, they've been assigned different bags/flights; usually they'd all be in the same one if posted on the same day, but I'm assuming because airmail and EMS is the only shipping method available at the moment, more people are using the former.

So my seamail parcel has hit the UK finally and boom customs have hit it with a charge what's the trick to pay Parcelforce online before I have to await the letter?

I have tried the tracking details but comes up with error and asks for letter reference number. I remember awhile ago paying before the letter arrived and Parcelforce delivered the parcel a week later the letter arrived.

When I tried on Twitter 2-3 weeks ago, they had halted giving the codes via social media for COVID-related reasons. However, if the letter fails to turn up (like I had this week because they sent it to the wrong address...) you can ring your local depot and they'll be able to give you the code. Numbers for the depots are available on the Parcelforce site.

Anyone know how long parcels from the US packages are taking? I ordered some charms which shipped at the end of March and still haven't arrived or been sent back to the seller (they're legit and I've ordered from them before). Also, when I paid for the order, the exchange rate was such that it was under the £15 limit - am I right in thinking that you apply the exchange rate when you paid for the goods, so they can't slap a fine on it a month later when the exchange rate is worse?

Alright so I thought this was the end of it, but there's a package I'm still waiting for that was dispatched from the outward office of exchange on the 2nd of May, and no updates since. I've received packages sent the same day and handed over to the post office after, but not this one.

Anyone else had a package dispatched from the outward office of exchange on the 3rd Japan time, and not received yet? I hope it's just that whole "bag" that's delayed because it's odd to me this one package is just stuck.

Just had an airmail package from Big in Japan. It shipped originally by SAL on March 30th and then was returned to them when SAL was shut down. They reshipped it April 17th via airmail and just got here today. So two months on the dot for an small unregistered airmail packet.

I had a HLJ parcel that came without customs charges a few days ago, it was shipped by fedex, so it ended up going to hongkong, then paris, then amsterdam, finally to the uk. So probably avoided customs charges as it came into the EU.
When i have used EMS i tend to get charged more often than not.
It may also depend on what's listed as in the parcel as usually if there are books i don't get charged.
I try to not have very small orders or low value parcels as the minimum 12 pounds parcel force charge then does not hurt as much.

scratch that for the customs charge, two weeks later just got a customs charge letter from fedex, ouch

Books are zero-rated for VAT, so no, there shouldn't be a charge for those.

You will still get VAT'd, but duty should not be due. Had 3 parcels >£135 this year, and none of them had duty added.

Yes, that isn't changed, as that's levied by the couriers themselves.

They will charge it if there's VAT to pay (which is still the same £15 for goods, £39 for gifts thresholds), same as times past.
