Guide to One Piece Figure Purchases

This strictly applies to those who wish to purchase figures from the asian second hand market, such as YA,Mandarake etc. If you're just sticking with amiami/hlj, you can pretty much exclude yourself from it.

    ------------------------------- General knowledge -------------------------------

    ------------------------------- Sticker Overview -------------------------------
First up you need to know about stickers, cat stickers. Like the name, it has a cat on it.

There’re many version that differs by its color, used to prove the product is official and licensed. You will see one piece products without it, very rare though. Fake stickers do exist and are very common in the Asian market, so do your “homework” before buying them.

These are the traditional sticker with Japanese exports. Top right corner comes with numbers or at times without. They’re considered the “best quality”

An additional sticker is put onto the back of the box for Mainland China version.

    ------------------------------- Sticker Specific -------------------------------

This only applies to Japanese versions, however they're only true
about 70%-80% of the time because of the mixed asian market.

    ------------------------------- Existing versions -------------------------------

There're only 4 known authentic versions:

    Japanese
    Asian
    HongKong
    Mainland China

    ------------------------------- Product "nickname" -------------------------------

Bootleg: Strictly speaking, anything produced without authorization should be considered bootleg. But in this case for One Piece figures, We will only consider those used with replica mold and inferior quality material as bootleg.

Factory Product(With or without box): Anything ranging from stolen products off the assembly line to factory rejects are considered “factory product” Strictly speaking they’re all “bootleg”, of course they differ from the real bootlegs or replica. Copyrights are the only things missing for these “factory product” Imagine Bandai want you to produce 100k units, I don’t think the Chinese factory would be so nice to produce 100k only. The extras will flow into the black market, the only thing Bandai can control are the 100k stickers. Those without will be considered “bootleg”. From a collector’s point of view, these are not worth buying. From a price point of view, you can save up to 80%+ off with the exact same thing depending on the amount produced.

High Replica: Mold stolen or sold after production is finished, private factory then produced without consent. Currently there is only one known High Replica, which is the Strong World Nico Robin from POP. Will discuss later the only 2 way to figure out authentic from High Replica.

    ------------------------------- Product "Production/Sale runs" -------------------------------

First production: New mold made and first production made.

2nd production: Same mold used in first production being used again, therefore causing slight difference because of wear on the mold. Note, a way to notice this is if the figure is released in 2010 but dated 2005, where in 2005 the first version was released.

Renew: Reproduction of the first batch, except new mold is made using the old one as model and more detail is added to it. NEO POP is an example

Resale: The company kept a portion of the first production from going into the market, then "re-releasing" it at a later date.

    ------------------------------- Product "1 KUJI" -------------------------------

一番くじ, commonly known as 1kuji, translated means number 1 draw or best draw. These are a line or products under Banpresto. These draws cost 500-800 yen, and has 100% chance of winning. They're ranked by A赏、B赏、C赏 etc. Usually with the prior being better quality and rarer, thus more expensive. However there're cases where B is worth more than A due to demand.

A little history behind this. There are usually 3 runs of the drawing, Banpresto will negotiate with anything from super market to conventions.

First run is usually monopolized by a convenient store named Family mart in Japan. It's small scale run, usually all products drawn within 1 day of start.

Second run is huge, across country in a lot of the figure/model stores. Duration can last up to 2 month. A friend of mine was able to draw 2 B赏 within a week in 10 draws.

Third run is for seven eleven store and OP conventions. Usually last 1 day only

    More details coming soon

    ------------------------------POP------------------------------

Just gonna put this up first while i complete the rest, almost too many stuffs to do.

----------------------- High Replica - Nico Robin POP Strong World -----------------------

The one and only incident where the original mold was stolen, therefore came the first High Replica ever. Made by a bootleg factory.

There're only 3 ways to spot it, aside from that, they look exactly alike. Because of this, the value of the replica is much higher than bootlegs, however only at half of the authentic price in asian market.

The one on the left is the authentic, box has a darker color.

Look at the distance between the stocking and skirt, the left one is authentic, not showing flesh
