sonicking (hace 1 día) #57411793The ironic thing about this article is that the friend "Scott" interviewed, is a scalper himself! He is just pissed that the Chinese are copying his business model and stealing his business.

Yeah, kind of sounded like that to me, too! 9_9;;

Klon (hace 3 días) #57218103Thanks for the link to the article! Yes, I'm very aware of the practises of these scalpers.
But I also got the impression from comments on the MFC board many people don't really care much about paying for their beloved figures 30.000, 60.000 or 90.000 Yen. They just need to get it somehow.
And in addition, some figure companies do their best to provoke such a behaviour with their "Limited&Exclusive" items of mass production.
Look at Kotobukiya, most of their figures you can get quite close to the release price, even months after release. That is not because their figures are exceptionally bad, but Kotobukiya rarely do artificial shortage on their products.
About your figure: I have a tower of figures sealed in boxes at home I thought I must have and I'm now trying to sell them since the day they arrived. I guess I'm not the one who should give smart advices, but I'd wait until the re-release. As you mentioned the moment of happiness over a new toy doesn't last long (the one over your husband hopefully does LOL!). So, if you still interested in a flawless figure after the re-release, sell yours and get a new one.

HAHA yes, true. However I need to remember my husband and I are different people. He'll throw away boxes, beat them up, etc. All he cares about is the contents. If it was me I would probably have returned it and gotten another one. He opened this one this morning and was so happy checking all the joints and telling me about the parts, showing me the joints, telling me about the 'fin' on the head and how it breaks and checking how it was made... he was enjoying it for sure. He could have thrown the box in the trash compactor and been just as happy.

How happy he is has already paid for the figure, resale value 10 years down the road be damned. If he wants to sell it in 10 years, whatever we can get for it will be fine since he got/will get his use and joy out of it, I think.

Personally, I've recently managed to change my mindset to learn to be happy with my figures and how to choose those ones that will grant me that happiness.

Edit: I also have to say, I really like Kotobukiya, especially lately. Making figures from series that other companies wouldn't, true to the character, not oversexed, overcomplicated, or boring. I wish their figures were just a LITTLE higher quality molding and finish wise, but they have been getting my dollar (or at least have been getting on my wishlist for consideration!) while companies like Megahouse got kicked to the back burner for just those things you mentioned.

...it does make me sad someone posted an article stating Koto's profits are down, I'm hoping that was just because they took a bad gamble on a Marvel line and that their anime lines are still doing well and they will continue making figures :-/

Klon Solo Rei basta!
maggie (hace 4 días) #57120370Interesting article about this figure and Chinese scalpers! So you are EXACTLY right, in this case it is directly because of scalpers.
www.syfy.com/sy...
tl;dr Basically Chinese are coming into the country, lining up, buying up all the products, and taking them back to China or selling from Japan at scalper prices. Because visitors to the country can buy things tax-free, and China has a trade deal with the US that lets them have non-competitive shipping rates via e-packets, the Chinese go and buy up all the stock (tax free), go home, and offer the item to Americans to buy with free shipping (thus undercutting Japanese shops again).
VERY INTERESTING, RIGHT?
Also mine arrived from amazon, with glue fingerprints all over the top and ripped at the edges. Sigh. They gave me 20% ($50) off but I'm wondering if that's worth it? I feel like the resale value is shot (not that I'm going to resell it, it's for my husband, but people fall out of love with things over time ((not how I feel about my husband LOL!)). What do you guys think? Should I just return it and get my money back and hope I can get an order in when the re-release happens?

Husband LOVES IT! Great articulation and quality, heavy. Looks really nice. So cute to see my husband excited and playing with a figure! XD

Added pictures of the box, packaging and accessories for people (I never remember how things go back in the packaging so this is kind of for my husband's benefit when he puts things away haha!).
