WanderingWastrel (hace 4 días) #32679391I really hesitate to bring this up, because I can recognize a can of worms when I see one.

Considering there's plenty of goods classifications with up to ten different aliases, these should probably be merged as well. But two things that needs to be indentified first: Is anything an actual product line used by a certain company? Those should still be their own entries. The other thing should be if there's a design difference that makes the naming different. Bad example to what I'm trying to say but here goes: a fork and a knife are both cutlery, but at the same time their own thing because of the design differences.

This is just my two cents, a MOD would have the final word. But I know in general that it's better to have one entry with all the aliases than multiple small ones. Easier to avoid duplicates as well.

I really hesitate to bring this up, because I can recognize a can of worms when I see one.

It's about classifications used for items like this: ITEM #537616 -- specifically, a flat rectangular acrylic panel with printed artwork, usually (but not always) with steel posts that can screw into holes in the bottom corners to hold it upright for display.

In starting to add a similar item to the database, I've discovered the following classification entries that have been used already for such an item, listed below. (a couple only may have been used thusly, as some entries only show the artwork, not if the method used to prop the artwork panel up is steel posts or not)

Acrylic Art Plate (16)
Acrylic Plate (153)
Acrylic Character Plate (75)
Chara Fine Acrylic (1)
Acrylic Panel (217)
Acrylic Board (57)

The number in parenthesis is the current number of items using that classification. Some items include more than one of the above as a classification. (The situation seems to have been arisen, at least in part, by different manufacturers/retailers calling the same product by different names.)

In addition to the ones listed above, a sampling of other classifications that are, or are potentially, related are: Acrylic Pedestal (has screws at top of panel as well, for holding in separate artwork that is not printed on acrylic); Extra Large Acrylic Panel (only difference is larger size than usual Acrylic Panel); Acrylic Stand (a few items of the kind I'm talking about include this as a classification, but this classification also includes non-rectangular acrylic items that stand upright by being slotted into another piece of acrylic, not to mention plenty of keychains that can also be stood upright).

There may be more classifications that have been assigned to this type of item that don't include the word 'acrylic', but after I got this far I remembered that even I have something resembling a life, so I stopped looking.

So after all that my question is this: should an item such as I referenced above only have one classification, rather than so many variants? And even if it should, is it worth trying to fix things at this point? Perhaps the best that can be done is a comment on the encyclopedia entry for each one, suggesting that users might search on the other classifications as well?

Or should we all agree that we never noticed any of this and go on with our happy lives? I'm fine with that. Really.

Kaneel (hace 5 días) #32650982Those pouches should not be listed under nendoroid.
It often happens when a new item in a series get's added that user are overusing the types and keep on adding product lines to entries they should not be listed under.
An example would be the Nendo Co-de line which had both nendoroid and the co-de listed for some time because no one sat back and questioned if that is neccessary, until an alert where it was decided that it isn't because nendo's are movable while co-de's are static and they shouldn't be mixed.
If the line is hard to finde because of the naming the easier solution is to rename ENTRY #74372 with the current alias nendoroid pouch.

Ah, I see! My mistake then, I'm sorry >.> The way you edited it now is much more convenient though :) Thank you very much!

I really hope I don't get on anybody's nerves but I'm wondering one more thing: ENTRY #74372 - This line here is the Nendoroid Odekake Sleeping Pouch Line but around half of these entries are missing the "Nendoroid" classifications which made them pretty hard to find. 2 of them are actually still in draft mode and I'm adding the classification right now but I'm afraid the others are not ._.

I un-drafted this one for you so you can update it.
Are all the ones listed on this first page needing to be un-drafted as well?
A lot of the other TR acrylic stands are in draft mode (minus the first page).

Thank you so much! Please excuse me not getting back to you earlier ._.
Basically yes. The ones I'm talking about are those chibi-style acrylic stands. They all come from a line called "Potedan!". The original database adder had these all listed as exclusives, released in January (which might very well be, not sure which store/event though) but they're all getting a standard release in April now and can be bought regularly at AmiAmi. I wouldn't mind adding new pictures (since these current ones are a little blurry) and updating respective informations if you'd find some time un-drafting them ^^; Thanks a lot in advance!!

Promotional poster = any poster that one can get for free.
E.g:
- giveaways at events
- magazine ripoffs
- bonus posters for first press releases
- posters bundled with media
Crane game and kuji prize posters are OK, because one should invest some money for the kuji ticket/game play to get them.
When someone add a poster to the database without price, I'll always ask for price or source for "where to get?" to weed out the promotional ones.
One more thing: the "No promotional posters." rule only applies to regular paper based posters. Cloth posters and bath posters bundled with anything are OK.

Thanks for the reply. ^^ The poster I added was a clear poster, and they are made of a kind of plastic. It sounds like the poster shouldn't have been removed because it wasn't paper, then? Seems a confusing grey area.

PatchworkToxin (hace 6 días) #32587158Just a question, but I saw a poster I added got removed, was item #681239 but I wasn't aware it wasn't allowed. I had checked the guidelines and it stated no promotional posters, but I assumed that a preorder bonus was still okay. It wasn't clear what a promotional poster was? I thought a promo poster would be the ones displayed in shops or something to advertise items, which I have seen pop up for sale on Yahoo Auctions from time to time.
I just scrolled through comments here to see if anyone said anything on it, and saw it was mentioned that all bonus items were okay except books and posters, so my question is why are bonus posters not allowed, and perhaps the guidelines should be more specifically worded? I'm sorry for my mistake I just genuinely thought it was okay.

AkibaMelon (hace 9 días) #32448188Thank you, that would be amazing :D I'd gladly add it ^^ There you go: ITEM #620445 (basically each of this series could use a better picture, since there is now a standard release for these stands and better pictures are up on AmiAmi, but that would be a lot of work of undrafting and not really worth it I suppose >>)
