Photography fun - creating creepy fogPhotography fun - creating creepy fogReview

Hello everyone!

Lately I have been reusing my gothic portal BLOG #54839 specifically planning a picture of Uesugi Kenshin ITEM #806163 using artificial fog.

Well, delivery of the fog machine was delayed, so I took a pic with Hatsuaki in the meantime PICTURE #3414757

Last week the fogger (American dj vf400, 50 Euros) finally arrived and I immediately did a test run, proving that it's not usable for the kind of photo I wanted it to use for. Why? Because it produces clouds of fog. That was to be expected, but what I wanted was the creepy fog that crawls across the ground, so following advice from the net I build a cooling box to shoot the fog through. Just get a plastic container, cut holes in the front and back, fill it with frozen stuff (I used cooling pads), put the lid on and shoot the fog through.

When the fog is cooled it stays on the ground after seeping from the box, neatly flowing around the diorama. The fogger comes with a cable remote, and as long as the remote button is pushed fog is being produced. So you shoot some fog, watch it flow and take pictures, shoot again, maybe a bit more or less, until you're satisfied or the fog has started to rise and you can't see a thing anymore ^_^
Here's a pic of the setup after shooting, you can see how it has started to build up on the floor.

With all the fog in the room it's best if you don't have to mess around with the lighting, so I worked that out before fogging. I even had to eat candy to get the lighting right - I used "Quality Street" candy wrapping foils to color the spotlight on the blade, and I needed another blue one :D

It was a lot of fun, especially because the fog worked nicely from the start, and I'm looking forward to trying new stuff, laser pointers and such XD
For now I hope you like my pic of Kenshin, thanks for looking!

madmikehace 2 días#120086243Thank you! Yeah, the people around me call me crazy for all the work I put in the dioramas and the photos. But it's helluva lot of fun, and even more if you guys like it too ^_^

Well, can kinda see why, only in the sense that it definitely takes a lot of effort, commitment and "crazy" hard-work, something not many people are willing to or capable of seeing through. So it's definitely a positive connotation, imo, plus it's nice to be so invested (and good!) in your craftsmanship, specially when it brings you joy.

Also, fun to see the "behind the scenes" and your entire setup, a lot does go behind getting such amazing pictures, which is to be expected but I think some of us layman tend to forget x)

Archiwheelhace 3 días#120051068The fog effect is incredible. Also the sword rocks! Well done!
What is the white panel on the tripod on the right of the camera?
Thanks :D That is a cheap LED RGB panel for walls or ceiling, hence the block behind it that fixes it to the tripod. I use those as a cheap source of backdrop lighting.
