so i finished evangelion recently and i did what any sane collector does as soon as they finish a show ... look for the best figure of their best girl (misato). so, i'm browsing, and to be honest i think her garage kits are way better than her figures (ITEM #20079 being my favorite rendition of her with ITEM #20078 in close second). but i'm browsing, and i'm browsing, and i'm browsing...

and then i came across this ITEM #10561. it looked so familiar to me but i just tried to shake it off -- i don't collect dolls and it doesn't even look like misato at all.

well, a few days went by, and i could NOT get this figure out of my head. it was like an itch i had to scratch ... or an itch i had scratched before. so i went and checked out the manufacturer, and loe and behold it's part of this "cool girl" classification ... and i find ITEM #19697 which i KNOW i had when i was little.

yup, i basically found phantom childhood toys from the deepest darkest depths of my brain. a little bit more looking and i found the following that i remembered owning when i was maybe in like 4th-10th grade:

ITEM #10561
ITEM #19697
ITEM #19696 / ITEM #19695
ITEM #5501
and one other i can't find but i seem to remember she was brunette wearing blue

how WEIRD is this. so i brought it to my parents after trying to describe them to them (last time i saw them their outfits were in pretty bad shape. like i legitimately played with these instead of displaying them...). and yes! my mom confirmed that she remembered us owning them. she said she picked them up in japan town when i was younger because she thought they looked cool (along with this figure we call "Moon Girl" who i have no clue who she really is. maybe my next journey is finding out her real name). like what's up with my mom just casually doing awesome things randomly?!

i had never seen evangelion, and neither had my mom ... and if you've read my blog posts before, you know my mom literally had NO INTEREST in japan while she was raising my brother and i but somehow is responsible for introducing us to the culture. so i had never seen evangelion but i played with misato and asuka as a kid, and i'm only now realizing it like over 10 years later. how wild is that!

anyway, hope you enjoyed my funny story. if i find them i'll take some pictures of them but i'm sure they are in terrible shape. i trashed these girls and took them literally everywhere with me, they were my toy of choice and i loved coming up with fun stories about them. we ended up buying one of them (the one i can't seem to find) for my best friend at the time and i remember that she used to have it on display even when she left for college (and she has zero interest in japan).

just the sheer fact my mom bought me a figure from cutie honey by GO NAGAI ... like mom, you get major props right now. it is so weird how things come full circle!!

HappyakrzHace 6 meses#76421646I really liked aspects of Evangelion, but I'm still scratching my head on a few storyline pieces. I'd love to read a full-length sci-fi novel adapted to the original story with a more complex explanation of the preceding events and more in-depth character development.

Yeah, to be honest, it was a fun show but it definitely wasn't my favorite. I was definitely scratching my head at some parts. I am glad I finally got around to it, especially because there are some good figures, but I'm still pouting over needing more Misato figures in my life lol

Ritsuko doesn't appear to be in the database.
I have both Asuka and Misato CG dolls and would love to add Ritsuko to collection - if I can find her.
Misato is a favourite of mine too and one of the figures of her I particularly like is this: ITEM #3760
What Evangelion did you just watch - the series or the Rebuild movies?
If you get the chance read the manga as well.
Cheers

momo-sanHace 6 meses#76347083In the CG series there were two more from Evangelion.
One was Asuka, ITEM #5501 and the other was Ritsuko Akagi.

Do you happen to have a link of the Ritsuko Akagi one, or is she not in the database?

Haha, your dad is an OG! I love this. My dad will sit down and watch anime with me, his favorites being Konosuba and Attack on Titan. My mom likes Love Live but mostly likes it when I stream BabyMetal onto the TV to show her live concerts lmao...

CloudberryHace 6 meses#76304650Your mom predicted your future and knew that you'd be into Misato - and other cool girls.

It's actually kind of funny because Misato and I both share another trait, which is View spoilerHide spoilerthat giant scar on our chest lol. I am super self conscious about mine, but when I saw that my fav character had it ... I was like OK maybe it's not so bad haha. Anyway I just love her LOL. :')

mikki-maluHace 6 meses#76327242That's a cool story, please make another post if you find them in any condition :)

I'm going to take a look and try to find them. Whatever condition they may be in, it would be fun to make a blog post and look -- and also see if they were bootlegs lol. Regardless, I have such fond memories of these and it's so interesting that it's come full circle!

It's funny how we come into contact with anime things before becoming anime fans.

He's not an anime fan, but this kind of reminds me of my dad who watched Speed Racer as a kid and talked about how much he loved it. A few years later, after learning about the history of anime and becoming an anime fan myself, he brings up Speed Racer again.

Me: You know that's an anime right?

Yeah, I was also looking at the price and that's one of the reasons I was convinced it wasn't possible. However, I seem to remember there never being any boxes for the figure and I believe my mom bought them second hand, most if not all of them without their bases ... so I am guessing she got them at a discount. Sadly I have not inherited being thrifty from her.
