Konosuba - Aqua - Sneaker Bunko 30th Anniversary Ver. (Kadokawa)Konosuba - Aqua - Sneaker Bunko 30th Anniversary Ver. (Kadokawa)

Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review!

This time I’ll be taking a look at ITEM #740484 the Sneaker Bunko 30th Anniversary Ver. of Aqua from the popular light novel series (and anime) Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! or “Konosuba” for short, made by Kadokawa. Since I got Megumin ITEM #740485 also getting the useless goddess was more of a no-brainer. So, without further ado let’s get to the review.

Just like Megumin’s box Aqua’s too is quite bland, with big windows on every side (barring the bottom). The polka dots and diagonal stripes are ok, fitting, but far from being anything special. Additionally, both boxes are incredibly flimsy and way oversized. Especially Aqua’s which could easily have been shrunk to the same size as Megumin’s at least (yes, I’m salty that she didn’t fit Air SM for no particular reason…).

At least Kadokawa made both the blister and box flimsy and oversized so there’s a pattern… I guess…

After unboxing everything we're left with 3 parts: main figure, base and the plastic support pole.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554886518.jpeg
In theory the assembly is easy with the instruction sheet giving the only necessary hint, but well. Getting the support pole to fit isn't as easy as it looks since it's an awfully tight fit.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
The base is a splash of water on a fan, made completely of blue, see-through plastic. Apart from a few seams here and there that won't bother you once you display Aqua, I've got nothing to complain. It's a nice and very fitting base for her too as it reminds you of her party trick skills she loves.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554886537.jpeg
As I said the assembly is straightforward but needs a little extra push. Do check how far the support pole goes in too, the hole isn't very deep after all. Btw that thing is a necessity, otherwise Aqua will just topple over.

Now for the 360° view...

Her pose looks quite dynamic with the flowing hair and her outstretched arms and legs despite her sitting pose. :3

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Aqua shows us a dazzling open-mouthed smile. Her mouth is actually sculpted in, giving it more depth and her eyes look lovely. While her making the V sign is cute too, it makes it a bit harder to display her so you can fully appreciate her face.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888685.jpeg
The sculpt of her hair is great, starting with the nicely defined front and side bangs. The way it flows in the air in particular. What I really love about it is the shading though, it's really well-done.

Now look at the way Aqua's hair curves upward, it looks gorgeous (kind of makes you worried about future leaning-issues even with the support rod, but whatever). Her hair accessory too is pretty well done (especially the pearlescent finish), but it hardly captures my attention long enough, because I've always liked swirling hair strands (even as a child I loved illustrations with them, so seeing that in figure form feels special to me).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888725.jpeg
Yet there's small drawback, but at least it's not a visible one... her hair feels kind of rough to the touch.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
On to the body and clothing...
First off there's the big ribbon, that immediately draws your attention. Sadly, I feel it's a bit lacking in definition (the bow and ends could be more clearly parted) and there are small seams to be found if you look closely as well. Plus, the white on the button border obviously isn't cleanly painted, but oh well.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888733.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888741.jpeg
Other than that, both the paint and sculpt on the front of her shirt make a good impression, with the creases adding a bit of realism (and no the white dots aren't paint flaws but small specs of dust from my picture tent -_-).

Looking at her from the side 2 things came to my mind immediately: the first is that she sure has nice looking arm pits and the other is the question if her chest really was that massive (kinda remember that at least a little differently).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888750.jpeg

The back continues the realistic impression, but I must say I'm happy that the part of her collar the ribbon is attached too is mostly hidden beneath her hair, because that paintjob sure is sloppy.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888764.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554888757.jpeg

Aqua's detached sleeves kind of continue the somewhat unclean paint, but it's not that bad imo (still... why Kadokawa?).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554889025.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554889030.jpeg
I'm pleasantly surprised about her hands though, after some concern that they'd just look like lumps in the final product they turned out ok. Well, the seam at her thumb is not that nice, but other than that it could've been worse (I appreciate the nail polish too).

Skirt part will be under spoiler, since it's mildly NSFW.:3
View spoilerHide spoilerThe sculpting on Aqua's skirt looks pretty good and the paint is clean too (for the most part). But well, is it just me or was her underskirt way more transparent then that? It's just a solid black...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554889048.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554889057.jpeg
Something I forgot to mention so far is that the pleats have to be aligned correctly when seating Aqua in the base, but with some trial and error that's easy to find out.

Well now, the looks under her skirt (not hard to accomplish)....
I get that they wanted to avoid answering the question whether Aqua wears panties or not (something the LN apparently answers at some point), but was this really the best way to do that? x3
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1554889066.jpeg
Squeezing her skirt between her thighs looks kind of.... errrr... questionable. ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌

Now for her gorgeous legs...
Those thigh-high boots sure make her legs stand out. The dark blue with the even darker shading looks so got and her leg sculpt is~♡
The details at her knees add a bit more realism too.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Now for some size comparisons, though this is will be pretty short since I didn't measure Aqua (with the sitting position there's way I can give a reliable estimate on how accurate her size is).
Anyway, Aqua is a 1/7 scale and as such dwarfs ITEM #143923 and ITEM #141, but I still like that they all have a water-theme and continue the mostly blue color-palette. :3
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1555175187.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1555175194.jpeg

ITEM #645454 is a pretty good fit, it looks like Kanan got splashed by Aqua's party trick. :3
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1555175200.jpeg

This is how it should be imo, Megumin ITEM #740485 and Aqua are a great fit, both in the LN style and so cute~♡
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1555175211.jpeg

Just like Megumin Aqua too looks good next to figures bigger than your average 1/7 scale like Akari ITEM #464718.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1555175217.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Well, Kadokawa is no top-tier manufacturer so I expected Aqua to come with flaws (especially after seeing Megumin) and maybe it’s just me not having great expectations but I think Aqua turned out quite good. She looks very charming and I actually got the impression she turned out a bit better than Megumin, yet that may entirely be the fault of the initial concept being more interesting. At the end of the day I won't keep these lovely ladies though, since they don't exactly fit my collection (both in style and size sadly). x3

That's it for this review! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it! ^^
If you don’t mind, I’d love some constructive criticism,
but if you don’t feel like posting any your thoughts on the figure are also very welcome. :3

kururin (hace 10 días) #56945960I remember seeing this one when it first came out as a GK (ITEM #596396) and thinking, "Man, that would look great as a PVC!" and I'm glad to see that it got one! I've only seen a few GIFs from "Konosuba" and not the anime itself, but Aqua seems to be an entertaining character (as her nendoroid clearly shows, lol).
Anyway, aside from the few defects you pointed out, it looks like a rather decent figure of Aqua, one that would definitely stand out on a shelf. Great review! ^^
Thank you!! She sure is entertaining, then again the whole cat is, if you have some time I'd definitely recommend giving the anime a chance. :3
I'm actually surprised that she turned out that nice, because... Well, it's Kadokawa and if I had the space I'd have kept her (and Megumin for sure).

Akira (hace 11 días) #56901768I found interesting how they took the illustration this is based on and gave her a few more sizes boob wise lol
Overall I really like the sculpt, and how your pictures show in detail the good and bad of the figure, so thank you for that : )
Thanks for the compliment! :3
Yeah, that's weird but it's not like they're the first manufacturer to do that (or so I've heard).

PanchitoMatte (hace 11 días) #56899488The covering up of her.... parts... really surprised me. I knew about the show's ongoing jokedont say I didnt warn you!about whether or not she wore panties, but damn did the manufacturer have to be so cruel???
Edit:
By the way, the blue in your review was really pleasant to read. Arigato!
With that kind of shape for the "cover" they could've done without it imo, couldn't have been much worse. X3 Instead of real lady buy at get something that looks like weirdly colorful lady bits...
Thanks! :3
I always try to pick a font color that can be found on the figure or the box (in this case is Aqua's hair).

soundlinked (hace 11 días) #56898399It's a good and cute figure! Looking at your pictures makes me really wish paint quality is better though, especially with the high price tag...Yeah, me too, from what I've seen this is fairly normal for Kadokawa though (at least when they actually are the manufacturer). Most of these flaws are rather minor and once you have the figure on display you won't see them anymore, but with that kind of price-tag better QC should be a given. :/
