Nendoroid Hataraku Saibou U-1146 / Neutrophil / White Blood CellNendoroid Hataraku Saibou U-1146 / Neutrophil / White Blood Cell

This figure is actually one I got for my girlfriend, as she is a huge fan of this character. I do love the series itself that he's from, but I'm not as huge of a fan of him as she is (that's not to say that I don't like him...I do; but not a big enough fan to warrant getting a figure of him). But nevertheless, I am going to do a review on him regardless.

(And just as a personal side-note, who listed this guy here on MFC as "U-1146"? It was impossible to find this figure on here because of that! Yeah, technically that's his designate number, but the figure itself (on the box) is called by two other, completely different names! Why not list it under one of those names instead of some random code number that NO ONE will find under normal circumstances?!)

From the "Cells at Work!" anime, this is Nendoroid U-1146 / White Blood Cell / Neutrophil:

Each photo can be clicked on to give a full-size view of the image, even if the image itself doesn't display.

Here's him in the box:

As #979 in the Nendoroid figure series, U-1146 (henceforth known as either "White Blood Cell" or "Neutrophil") is one of the latest in the ever-growing and increasingly popular Nendoroid figure series!

Like all Nendoroids, White Blood Cell comes in the new much smaller and more compact standardized box. He's got most of his parts displayed in the window as well as the figure itself. It also has all of the normal information on it, like the series logo (in the top left corner), Good Smile Company (GSC)'s logo (top right corner), and of course the figure's name, number and image on the bottom.

Unfortunately I was really late in getting this figure, so I wasn't able to get it directly from Good Smile Company in order to get the pre-order bonus accessory. Instead I had to order this from HobbyLink Japan.

Back of the box:

The back of the box shows all of the legal information for Good Smile Company, as well as a few images featuring poses and scenes for White Blood Cell to be posed in.

Instructions:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552706354.jpeg

I apologize for the poor quality of these instructions, I can not access my scanner currently.

Keeping up the standard (as it is now) of Figma and Nendoroid figures; White Blood Cell's instructions are in both English and Japanese. The English is on one side, and the Japanese is on the other. It is the same on both sides, otherwise.

The instructions show all of his parts, including the standard how to change the face parts directions and how to brace the figure on the stand directions.

There are a few special parts with Neutrophil that are featured in the instructions, which are his arms (more on this later), his weapon with the blood swipe, the receptor notification on the back of his head, and the expression with stand.

Parts:

Normally I take the photo of the box's inner core straight on, but this was necessary to take at an angle to show the location of the expression piece, which is taped to the side and could be possibly missed because of this.

White Blood Cell comes with a good number of parts; both for his body and accessories. Here's the list:

-- Extra joint part
-- 3 alternate loose hands
-- Raised receptor
-- 2 blood stained arms

-- Stand for expression piece

Out of the box:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700843.jpeg

White Blood Cell comes ready to go out of the box once his protective plastic pieces have been taken off. He comes with his stern/serious expression in place as well as closed fists. He is also wearing his Neutrophil outfit he always wears in the anime.

As with all Nendoroids; the arms, hands, and legs are interchangeable and very easy to swap out with other arms, hands and legs. The same holds true for the face and the base as well.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700821.jpeg

However the major difference between this Nendoroid and most other ones is that the arms actually have an elbow joint (shown above, with the elbows bent). There have been Nendoroids in the past with this feature, but it's honestly not very common. And out of the ones that I have had with this feature, this is the best executed one so far! The joints are solid and tight (but not overly tight), with easy swiveling and movement and able to hold poses perfectly.

Back of the figure:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700823.jpeg

As there are no parts of the figure that would get in the way of the stand (like a cape, backpack, etc), the stand simply plugs into the back like normal.

There are two things of note for the back of the figure, though. The first is the receptor for unwanted bacteria: Instead of being a fold-up single piece, it's actually just a solid, locked-in piece that has to be pulled out and swapped with another piece for the detection pose (more on that later). Secondly the hat is done differently than most Nendoroids as well. Instead of being put on the figure as one piece, on top of the head/hair; the hat is sculpted as one piece with the hair. It actually splits in the middle, so that part of the hat and hair come off together when swapping out faces.

Knife:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700826.jpeg

White Blood Cell comes with a few accessories, one of which is his knife. This is his weapon that he always uses when he attacks and kills unwanted bacteria cells that invade the body. A special hand is needed to hold the knife, and is only for the right hand. It fits pretty well, but can be taken out a little too easily (it doesn't hold it as tight as it should).

Receptor/Alternate Face:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700829.jpeg

The other accessory for Neutrophil is the receptor. This is the detection pose; having been raised up to show that a bacteria has been detected and is nearby somewhere.

One of his alternate faces is the shocked face, which (like all the faces) has the shading around the eyes painted on it already (not an effect of the hat's brim).

Alternate Legs/Bloody Parts:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700832.jpeg

White Blood Cell has two alternate legs, which are both with bent knees. These almost seem to be reversed, as the slants at the tops of the legs seem to be reversed compared to the normal slants for legs (going the wrong direction). As there are pockets on the sides, the legs are easy to tell apart and which leg is which, so it just seemed off that they were sculpted that way. But it's not a major issue, as it is barely noticeable, especially if positioned the right way.

Then there are the bloody accessories. First there is the two arms, which are just the lower part of the arms and hands only. These are swapped out with the normal arms; leaving the top part at the elbow and above the same from the original arms.

The hand that holds the knife seems to be slightly off...it doesn't hold the knife as well as the normal, not-bloody holding hand. It can be actually quite difficult to get it to hold the knife and keep holding it while trying to make poses.

Lastly the bloody swipe effect simply slides onto the knife. It's very easy to slide on and holds in place well.

Happy Face:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700836.jpeg

The last expression for White Blood Cell is the happy expression, from maybe seeing the red blood cell he always runs into. The hand wave is done with one of the two flat hands he comes with (one for each arm, both left and right).

Expression:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700841.jpeg

As I can't read Japanese, I didn't initially know what this said. But I found out from the official GSC site that it's actually his catchphrase, "Bye bye, bacteria". This comes on a small stand that simply plugs into the base and holds the expression in place easily.

Good Smile Company Bonus:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Agon1533611726.jpeg

This is the official Good Smile Company photo, as I do not have this.

The last item to mention is the Good Smile Company bonus that comes with White Blood Cell. Unfortunately I don't have it, so I can only talk about it in general. As it is a bloody knife; this is best used by itself and without the blood swipe effect, which would cover it up.

Overall:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/ReflexDinobus1552700818.jpeg

Like all Nendoroids, White Blood Cell / Neutrophil is a great example of the kind of quality, detail and complexity expected from Good Smile Company. Very cute and accurate to the anime, with a decent amount of accessories and posing options!

There aren't any problems with White Blood Cell; outside of very minor things like the knife holding hand not holding the knife as well as it should, and odd slants on the tops of the alternate legs...but other than that, he's perfect!

Highly recommended. Decent amount of play value and display value with a decent number of options.

ReflexDinobus (Hace 1 mes) #54412078You're welcome for the review! I hope you can get him sometime! ^__^
I guess the real question then is why didn't they include "White Blood Cell" or "Neutrophil" with the "U-1146" name in the listing on MFC? Something like "Neutrophil (U-1146)" for his official MFC listing name? That would at least make sense and make it easier to find, since he's never called U-1146 in the anime, nor does anyone look it up that way on here, unless you already know about this. It just doesn't make sense...even if there are items on other Neutrophils from the anime.
Thanks for explaining that though. ^^

When I originally created the entry for him, I named him "White Blood Cell" and it was an issue since there are multiple of his kind and other cells that are also technically white blood cells. It was decided by the mods/admin to just have their numbers as their entry names. I know it can be confusing since really the only reference to these names in the anime is it being on their shirts, but he should be the first entry that comes up still when you search White Blood Cell.

noctisity (Hace 1 mes) #54409327Thanks for the review! He's one of my favorite characters from the series too, but he released during a bad month for me so I'm just looking at him from afar for now lol.

noctisity (Hace 1 mes) #54409327Regarding his name, although it is annoying to look for in the database, the reason they have him by his exact identifier opposed to the generic "Neutrophil" term is because these other white blood cells also have entries! ITEM #785833
(Random sidenote but it is fascinating watching people in the fandom discuss the characters because they have all the character's name/number combos memorized lol.)

weeb (Hace 1 mes) #54363469100% agree on his name. not sure why he isn't just named as white blood cell like it says on the box lol bizarre.

XD I know, right? Like they are planning to make more Nendoroids on the other White Blood Cell characters, so they have to identify this one by his code name so they don't mix it up later or something. lol
