Customising Mika figure (Part 3)Customising Mika figure (Part 3)

Part 1
Part 2

So a little update on the figure ^^

So over the past week I've been trying to paint him (on and off seen as I have uni and work >>) so far I've almost completed the sword and body.

Please keep in mind that the body is about the size of a nendoroids so the painting isn't perfect as I can't paint really small detail ;-;

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1512689485.jpeg

I started by painting the body a light grey. This was so I could paint a lighter grey over the top to try and give it a bit of depth.

I didn't really take many photos of what I did due to having to redo a lot of it but heres what I have in the end.

I still need to add the buttons down the front, correct the paint under his arm and paint the skin tones again.

I need to also add a matt spray over the top but I think most of the detail has been done (other then what I mentioned I need to do)

The paint is a little messy but it's the best I could do I'm afraid. I decided not to use masking tape (which probably would have helped >>) and just paint it all by hand. The small lines are just drawn on which a calligraphy pen.

But anyways here is the sword

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1512689491.jpeg

I didn't sculpt much detail on the sword so its mainly just painted on. This does mean it looks very flat but there's not much I can do about that now without having to start all over again ;-;

As for the head, I have painted the skin tone again and currently redoing the eyes before moving on to the hair. By time I complete the hair the figure will most likely be finished XD

This has just been a small update on him, thank you for reading ^^

And if anyone has any advice or tips please feel free to share, help will always be accepted ~

The eyes are one of the main focus of a figure but it's so difficult to get right ;-; I'm just happy on the GK I want doesn't have his eyes showing XD

Hey just wanted to let you know, I finished him (FINALLY!!!) LOL....the blog is up now!!

I'm so jealous because some have the easy stickers that you just stick on, but of course not this one!!!

Stacycmc (Hace 6 meses) #30823093Yeah the eyes are a total bioch!!! They are soooo dang small...I used the smallest no bleed pen I had for the black and it was too big, so I’ve watched like 10 YouTube videos on how to paint eyes on miniatures to figure out a better way, so gonna try some of those.
Yeah, I decided to try to hone my figure painting skills on Makishima as he’s more replaceable versus a figure I’ve had to take apart, remove paint on, and totally resculpt the face for... just way more effort will have gone into Tomoe, so rather not have to redo him....

AshuriiKareshi (Hace 6 meses) #30811331I can't wait to see them!!!! I'm happy the figure got to you safely despite all the issues. But I'll definitely keep an eye out for your blog.
I had a similar problem with the eyes, they look kind of messy but because the hair is kind of in the way it's difficult to correct -.- the skin is also a bit more tanned then I would like it to be but I just keep thinking Mika is a practise figure, so next time I'll make sure to improve on these things (there's a GK i really want so i want to improve on my painting ><). But despite all that I still love him XD he looks more like a little statue then a figure if that makes sense.

Stacycmc (Hace 6 meses) #30801410Oh sweet!! I bet it's exciting to be nearing the finish line!!! I can't wait to see him! :D
I actually just got my replacement figure yesterday...the packing was hysterical, I'll have to share that scene with all soon. It literally made me laugh it was so bad...BUT, the figure was fine inside so all is well.
I got started on painting another kit I had though, Makishima Shogo, so am planning to try to finish him up this week, then I'll start on Tomoe after that. I am really close to being done with Makishima, but I am going to redo his eyes this weekend....they look fine from viewing distance, but up close they are a bit of a mess...so I am going to rework them or I'll probably regret it.
I'll throw some pics up when I'm done though, been snapping photos of the process!

AshuriiKareshi (Hace 6 meses) #30801279I've pretty much completed him, I'm currently just trying to work out how to make a base. I was originally just going to glue him down but his head is so heavy that he started to lean ><
Ive used some of the milliput (the white version) and stuck him down using that. I might cover the rest of the base in the same milliput to make it look a bit like snow. But that's the current plan. Once I have the base done I'm just going to tidy him up a bit ^^
How's everything going on with your bootleg figure? Did you manage to get him shipped again?

Stacycmc (Hace 6 meses) #30800816Hey there!!! How is little Mika coming along? Did you get to work on him over the holidays, or you been tied up with holiday stuff?

..... wow that really does suck ;-;
Normally they would print out the address from your PayPal and send it to that, I don't understand how that could be wrong >> but i hope it all gets sorted out (and maybe use a different shipping method) ;-;
Mika is coming along okay I guess XD
I've made the base so now I just need to complete his hair. I keep getting back tracked because I keep accidently dropping him and then pieces of his hair break off ;-; but I've fixed him.
I'm just trying to think of a way to add more colour depth to the hair without using an air brush (because I'm scared of accidently getting paint on his face then having to redo it >>). It's solid blonde at the minute so I'm thinking of adding highlights seens as mikas hair is a really light blonde

Yeah, the fact I can’t work on it over the holidays, is downright depressing me big time. I was sooo excited to get started…

On a side note I think I may be able to actually offer you some useful advice for once on little Mika!!! Yay!!

I painted a Soldier 76 statue a while back for one of my friends, and had the same concern with his white hair. I didn’t want it to come out as this large white blob, so there were actually two things I did to remedy this…

1. The first thing I did was to paint the base in a dark grey, then I could just gently brush on the whites and have the gray under to intensify shadows and help create more depth. Since you’ve already painted Mika’s head though, you may not want to repaint to accomplish this….
2. So, the second option is to use soft pastels. I actually used these which I just ordered from Amazon (www.amazon.com/...). With the pastels, you just rub the color you want on some sandpaper…it then flakes off and creates a little area of powder. You can then dip your paintbrush (dry brush) in it and just brush it in on. So areas you want a darker shade, you could brush a little pastels on (using black or a darker yellow/blonde color) and you just keep applying until it’s how you want it (you can also brush on a lighter color to create highlights). Don’t wet it though…once you brush it on and are happy with it, or if you just want to seal that layer then apply more over the top…You just need to lightly spray it with some fixing spray/sealant (that’s safe for paints and your figures – I use this stuff: www.amazon.com/...), then let that sit for a bit, then you can apply another layer of paint/pastels….when you’re completely done, you will want to lightly spray again, just so your pastels won’t rub off.

Using those methods, I was pretty happy with how his hair turned out:

Anyway hope that helps with what you're doing....
