http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/02/05/360410.jpegToday we'll be taking a look at another heroine from MaxFactory. Catherine is her name and she is one of the main characters from a game with the same name. The game was developed by ATLUS for the PS3 and XBOX 360 which was released in July of 2011. It was an interesting mix of dating sim and puzzle game with ATLUS' familiar obsession of achieving a balance between good and evil. The character design was by Soejima Shigenori who also designed the various Persona characters.

This figure was a standard release in January of 2012 and retailed for around 7,400 Yen. At the time of this review is basically only available on the secondary market and stores not in Japan that carry figures. Since her rival currently doesn't exist to compare her against the goal today is to just take a closer look at her and what she has to offer.

Please understand a score of 10 will never be given as there is always room for improvement no matter how perfect a figure.

Packaging: 9/10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡

MF went with a typical window box design and layout. What catches your eye almost immediately is her kiss imprint on the window panel. It looks fairly realistic so I wonder if they had a girl, perhaps an idol, commit her lip imprints to the ages? It was a nice touch but I think it would have been even greater if they matched the color of her lipstick? In any case the main window panel at the front was shaped so you could see the entire figure which was a nice touch. There are a total of 3 window panels where the other two are located on the top and side. Due to the blister design your view in the other panels are obscured and they mainly serve to let light in. The pictures used highlight the main features of the figure nicely. The color scheme, artwork and decorations support the theme of the figure very nicely and remind me of the game. For display purposes you could probably leave her in the packaging if desired. A nice job in the presentation of the figure box.

Packaging weight and dimensions:
Weight: 525 Grams
H: 221 mm
W: 250 mm
D: 130 mm

A lightweight non-corrugated cardboard was used for the packaging. This kept the figure box feather light. The packaging was just big enough for the figure with some buffer space to help protect her. Even with the lightweight materials and the large window panels, compression resistance was excellent. They achieved a perfect balance between size, weight and protection. Shipping weight should be around 1 Kg or less. She should get to you safely and not break the bank doing it.

A typical two piece blister was used to cocoon the figure during transport. Some plastic sheets were used to protect her from rubbing and paint transfer. Tape was also used to help secure the blister pieces together. The tolerances on the pockets were tight enough so there should be little risk of shifting during transport.

MF did a decent job. The packaging's looks supported the theme of the character quite nicely. She was displayed prominently within the packaging giving you the option of leaving her in the box if desired. The size, weight and protection were more than adequate. She should get to you safely with minimal cost. Expectations were met and possibly exceeded.

Sculpting: 9/10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡
Sculpting credits go to Shining Wizard @ Sawachika who has been working on figures for MF for a few years now. Below you can see a sample of the work that SWS has done to date. SWS doesn't have a large body of work yet but the few figures out there were done with quality and attention to detail. This figure isn't any different. She is 1/7th in scale and measures a little over 210 mm tall. She comes with nothing else besides her base.

There really isn't much more to say so let's go on to the main show.

Now in the sculpting department there were really no issues to speak of. Just some minor things that really only impact the other areas more or less than the actual sculpt. Let's first start with her lovely face.

Having played the game and owning the art book that this figure was based off of I have to say SWS did a very nice job replicating her face. Her features are detailed and executed quite nicely. I especially love those luscious lips of hers. I love her strong features such as that chin and those cheeks as well as her nose. Even her ears look pretty darn good. SWS really brought her to life in regards to the face in my opinion.

Now the only area in the head/face I did have an "issue" with can be seen below. The transition point from her jawline to her neck isn't seamless. However there is a good reason for this which I will address in another section in more detail. Basically she's meant to be displayed in only one direction so the seams here are a non-issue.

Now her hair, especially the curls are thicker than the illustration. This is understandable due to the compromise needed between accuracy and strength. You can clearly see that they were capable of making the curls as thin as the illustration because the next coil in her left curl is just as thin. It doesn't take away from the figure or the character they are replicating. Now I don't know about you but her curls are so fun to play with but I have to force myself to stop touching them since they'll eventually fatigue and break from my repeated handling of them. They should resist damage but I don't think you should test your luck by playing with her curls as much fun as they are to tussle. Aside from the curls being somewhat thick they did a nice job replicating her hairstyle. Her hair frames her face nicely and I can't get enough of those curls of hers. They look good from all sides even though she is really meant to be displayed like the illustration. The seam at the top of her head that you find in most figures was somewhat minimized especially if displayed just like the illustration.

Moving on down to her skimpy outfit, little is left to the imagination in regards to her lovely physique. Her collarbones are defined and the choker transitions seamlessly to her flesh. It does make me wonder why they implemented her face like they did especially with the presence of the choker. They could have made her entire face/head whole and just use the choker to hide it being attached to her shoulder?

A nitpick I do have is her outfit appears to be carved out of her torso. They didn't use a separate piece. I can understand for the straps especially the ones for her slip but it would have been nice if they used an overlap design to ensure a more defined transition from dress to flesh. Aesthetically it wasn't that big of a deal in the sculpt of the figure but it does impact the painting of the figure.

I do love the job they did on her big bow and how her lovely figure comes out of that skimpy outfit. She has a full set of curves and that outfit does little to hide them but instead emphasize them further with how tightly they cling to her body. The details are definitely there as it really looks like the material is wrinkling and bunching up.

Moving on you are given a nice view of her bare back and shoulders. You can also see the choker again and the nice job they did with the transition. Now on mine some of the adhesive did spill out so results may vary but be aware you might encounter it with yours. The biggest thing for me is you get to admire her lovely figure even more as you follow it from her neck down her back to her slim waist to those full hips of hers. And as mentioned it looks like her outfit is carved out of her torso which isn't an issue in the sculpting department but could be in other areas such as painting.

Moving on down, you basically only get a peek at her panties but it's definitely an eyeful. What you see is detailed, especially those butt cheeks and the transition from her panties to her flesh is just divine. The detailing in this area was well executed, just love the curves in her thighs.

Pulling out a little you get a view of her stocking that's she's in the middle of putting on. The detailing was sufficient but they probably could have done a little more in regards to more material going into her fingers. The transition from the stocking to her thigh looked pretty natural and of course sexy.

The main attraction is definitely those long legs of hers. She definitely has a higher leg-to-body ratio which equals sexy. 8Þ I love a good pair of legs and she definitely has a lovely pair of legs. The details from the wrinkles and stretching in the stocking look realistic. The silky/shiny smooth finish and how the stocking accentuates her lovely curves is to die for. Those long legs are not lanky but have the right balance of curves and muscle tone. Even her feet look fairly accurate and realistic. Now I am concerned that if she was actually standing upright her legs might be comically too long... However since she's not I'll just enjoy the view for what it has to offer. An amazing pair of legs.

Sculpting wise, I thought they did a nice job. I do wish they would have thrown in my complexity with the design in regards to her outfit instead of carving it out of her torso due to possible issues with painting though. She seems accurate to the illustration so my expectations were met.

Painting: 9/10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡

MaxFactory usually does a competent job coloring their figures employing all the tools available. For the most part they did a nice job with this figure. However I do have issues with her hair. It just doesn't seem to match up with the character let along the illustration as much as I would have liked. Lighting definitely plays a key role in her hair color. More importantly it looks nothing like the prototype or official illustration unless they used some special lighting...

Anyway, let's move on to her lovely face. Her eyes were placed "precisely" and look accurate to the illustration and character design. Those glossy lips of hers are just begging to be kissed.

That bright red bow of hers is very eye catching. Her outfit for the most part was painted precisely but her straps for her slip may or may not be the same. Then again the same can be said for the straps of her dress as well. The precision will probably vary between figures with some looking worse or better than others. For the most part the tolerances are acceptable for a mass produced figure. Now in their defense, if they implemented a different approach where her flesh and outfit were separate parts they probably could have been issues with gaps/seams and misaligned parts. They made her dress a more subdued/flat color than her skirt which was more shiny and sparkly aiding in contrasting the pieces of garments.

Where she truly shines is her flesh tone. They did an amazing job. She has some of the most beautiful "skin" that' I've seen on a figure to date. She easily rivals a native figure in the execution of the flesh tone. The shading and accents especially at the transition points and details are fantastic. Her flesh just seems to breathe and come to life. Every inch of her body just seems to possess that spark of life making me think if I should touch her, she'll be warm and soft.

Aside from her hair, I'd say they did a decent job coloring her. Her lovely flesh brought those lovely pair of legs to life. Her face looks great and especially those lip smacking lips of hers. She seems accurate to the illustration. Expectations were mostly met. I was tempted to give a lower score but the lovely job they did on her skin and the overall look of the figure just made me want to go with the higher score.

Posing: 8/10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡♡
I think all that has to be said can be shown below. She matches the illustration fairly closely. Now if you want to nitpick you can see the illustration has her laid back more. The position of her head is different as well as her curls. It's still a pretty close approximation and I think they succeeded in bringing her to life.

However, I do have one issue that I've brought up many times. You basically can only display just like the illustration if you want her face visible. This is because of her eyes. There were designed to be displayed one in the direction of the illustration. If you have turn in either direction she starts to develop a derp face. Basically it'll look like she has crossed eyes or gecko eyes staring in two different directions.

However, there are ways around that. If you display her below eye level as you can see below her eyes are obscured enough that you could get away with displaying her in different directions. Or if you just display her with just one eye visible than again you can get away with it without her looking crossed eye. For the best results, display her above eye level. That seems the most forgiving and you usually have the most display options in regard to her facial profile. However, you do end up missing out on her panties if too high.

As mentioned the main attraction is definitely those long legs of hers. Even though it's based on an illustration, that pose especially of her legs is just darn sexy. The lines from her extended leg make for a sexy silhouette with those curves and taught muscles. Her bended leg shows off more curves and draws your eye to those thighs of her and their transition to her panties and that skimpy skirt. What a sight to behold.

Despite the "limited" display angles due to her eyes, her pose seems pretty accurate to the illustration. It's also very natural looking as I can see any number of lovely ladies doing the same as they pull on some stockings or even jeans. The display of those long, lovely legs is to die for as well as that inviting smile and seductive look of hers. Her silhouette is extremely sexy. Expectations were met.

Base: 8/10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡♡
Not much to say here. The base gets the job done and I think they took a creative way to display her. They basically put her on a pedestal as either a trophy/prize or a work of art. I'd say she's both. 8Þ Aside from maybe the more predictable edge of a bed or chair which definitely would have been better than a plain old base, I don't think they could have done any better. The execution in regards to looks definitely goes along with the figure and character. My only real concern is those pegs that mount her to the base. They are just not thick enough and way to close. I can see them breaking easily which is a concern of mine especially if she should topple over or if dropped. The draped cloth looks nice and the small footprint and high clearance gives you a lot of display areas to choose from.

Not much to say. It gets the job done and looks good doing it. You should not have any problems finding an area to display her due to the high clearance and small footprint. My only concern is the mounting pegs and whether they are sturdy enough. It matches the official photos so my expectations were definitely met.

Enjoyment: 9/10 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡
Well, we've taken a closer look at this vixen. All I can say is she's got legs and she knows how to use them. 8Þ I do not regret acquiring her and think she was worth what I paid. She is well put together with only "minor" issues. They did a great job bringing her to life and I just can't get enough of her beautiful face and those lovely legs of hers. I didn't get her because I have the game and I feel even if I didn't know who she was I would have still went ahead and acquired her. She's a lovely figure which has basically met my expectations and I look forward to the next figure by SWS.

Sleep tight and see you later.

She looks better in the last pic than in any of the others, I think this figure is really picky with the angle and lighting.
