Putting More Clothes On...Putting More Clothes On...

You ever wish certain figures had more clothes on?
Weird way to start an article, right?

Sometimes, I will come across a figure and just love how it looks. The sculpt is great. The pose is great. The color combination is great. The quality is great. The price is gr...wait the price is never great...the price is passable, lol. But it has way too little clothes on for my liking.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a prude. Without making myself sound like a complete pervert, I will say that I am a pretty hotblooded guy who enjoys the view in the summer. But I don't see figures the same way.

For example, this Rias Gremory figure by Griffon. ITEM #236636. I can't say anything about the quality of the figure, but IMO, its the only Rias figures that actually looks like she does from the anime.
[And quickly back to the not being a prude thing, I watched and enjoyed Highschool DxD, so...that's something, lol.]
But she just has way too little clothes on for my liking.

But its a little more than the lack of clothes that bothers me. I have figures in my collection -- ITEM #233043 and ITEM #198444 -- that has the same amount if not less clothes on. But to me, the figure's lack of clothes isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I see them. But when I look at Rias, the first thing I think is "she has barely anything on". And I get that, that is the point of the figure in the first place. It's just not my cup of tea even though everything else is.

And then there are Native figures. A lot of them are gorgeous and ridiculously well-made, and I would love to have some in my collection. But they have their tatas out all the time. I'm not sure how many times I need to make myself come across as a pervert, but I have nothing against tatas, if you know what I mean. But I'm not a fan of constantly exposed tatas. In fact, constantly seeing tatas numbs you to them after a while.

Sometimes, I really wish I had the ability to sculpt just so I can buy figures like that and then make clothes for them. In fact, if someone knows of a service that does it, let me know, lol.

A few of my guy friends have actually been complaining about this... they love the character, but don't know why they're in tiny clothes, or their clothes are WAYYY tighter than in the anime, or their boobs bigger, or oops! their butt is falling out of their pants, or 'why are they wearing clothes they've never worn in the anime or manga ever?'. I was surprised my friends were thinking this way (because I have been too, but I'm a girl), and they said they were aggravated that it made the characters not come across accurately, didn't capture their personality, etc. And they weren't buying them. Some of their favorite characters! Simply passing them over.

Someone posted an article the other day about their favorite General/Military characters, and I realized all the male characters were in their full military garb, while almost all the women were in bikinis or sexy clothes, or their clothes were open. What's with that?

i love that rias figure for just the reason that she looks like in the Anime, but i also whish it would have another one in her School Outfit, and, well... i whish that this figure would be remade from Alter.

They do an amazing job in the last figures i bought from them, i whish that Rias, my fav among all those Girls, would have such an amazing sculpt, she just deserves it so much. [only my opinion]

Would be a nice option!

I much prefer figures with plentiful clothing and vibrant colours. The best figures are those where the sculptor manages to achieve a balance between what may be seen as a 'safe' figure, but that has extra interesting and less obvious 'details'.

Something popular like Saber Lily (ITEM #5769) could easily be displayed anywhere, but you also have the intricate details to the stockings and garments. Other things like the underarm add to such 'details'.

Momohime (ITEM #27637) is another example, depending on the angle you display her...

I get the idea of plot armor, but maybe don't go wearing that half the time? But, sorry, just your post made me chuckle since that's something me and all my friends complain about with anime.

Hahaha so true! I think when Yoko from Gurren Lagaan came along it definitely hit a note with people and designs that like became rather popular (look at BRS). Though Yoko wasn't a soldier per se. It is irritating when I see animes like that were the guys are fully decked out and the girls are somehow missing most of their tops and bottoms. Shouldn't they be wearing the same uniform like in Fullmetal Alchemist??

I'd like to see some of these Ranbu dudes have their armor blast off as battle damage, because I've seen some rather heinous games where that happens with the ladies. I'm definitely not seeing scales of them in towels or speedos, that's for sure.

I have to say I've sometimes thought this about figures - Great pose but just a little too naked. I also really like seeing pictures where people have custom made clothing, like the dresses for the ToLoveRu brides.

Thanks!

I love seeing those custom dresses too, they're amazing.

I completely agree with you. A good example in my opinion are the Tony Taka figures. Many of the figures based on his drawings are just blatantly perverted. I find them distasteful, and I think it's a shame because, although his character designs lack variety, his drawings are very pretty.

I absolutely agree with you. If you want to enjoy partial nudity, full-blown nudity, fanservice or whatever, that's fine. But it's become so common that's it's easy for it to become a turn-off. Not to mention that, as others have said, there needs to be some degree of tastefulness or "logic"/sensibility behind it for most people to like it.

And it's even more ...bizarre, I guess would be the word, when you realize this only applies to female figures. Another user mentioned the argument about the "female body being a work of art," but what about the male body? The only NSFW male figure is Aoba, and he only just went up for preorder. Yeah there are some male figures without a shirt but they aren't inherently sexual the way the female figures are, and even then they're still not nearly as common as the number of shirtless, pantsless female figures.

So ultimately, the number of non-dressed female figures are getting to the point where people aren't finding as much appeal with them anymore, and a lot of them are either illogical (users already brought up the all-too-common "bikini armor" syndrome) or so out-of-character that fans find it hard to enjoy the figure just off of sex appeal alone. And on top of that they aren't even balanced out with similar male figures.

ipwnboyz (hace 3 años) #8971740To me it's not a question of clothing or not but if the figure as a whole looks original.
Perfect example is ITEM #166923. He's almost naked and is a real beauty.
There is beauty in nudity but it needs to be well executed, same goes with clothes.

I second this.

I used to dislike figures with nudity kind of by nature, found them distasteful. Not to say nude figures in general are bad of course, I'm just really not their target audience. But I've recently started seeing a few here and there that really draw my attention (like ITEM #287299 ). Some figures can pull off the nudity angle without it being like it's only selling point.

Execution is king.

LovelyIdiot (hace 3 años) #8967650View spoilerHide spoilerhttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/pics/figure/large/198504.jpg Like those are some really bizarre pants she's wearing. Any excuse for a panty shot lol.
But yeah, I feel like really nice outfits on a figure can really make it a figure worth buying. I've ordered 2 of the Alter's Love Live line purely because I really like their outfits.

Just a modification on the old motorcycle chaps...Instead of leather you might see on women over denim, it's denim chaps in "shorts" over panties or a bikini bottom. Is rather strange though.

In fact, I found this...lol. NSFW;

Yeah, I just painted it right on her. I got it preowned for really cheap, so I wasn't worried about messing it up.
