October Betoyo Bento!October Betoyo Bento!

MJ_CobraMJ_Cobrahace 4 añosLoot
Subscription boxes are the new trend these days, and one can easily find a box filled with goods to satisfy the heart.

I fell into the vortex of subscription box videos and decided to search for an anime box. What I discovered is that as of now, there are two subscription providers for anime fans: Anime Bento and Betoyo Bento. Boxy-chan also provides an "Anime Box," though it is a one-time box.

I watched some Betoyo Bento unboxing videos for an idea as to what they include, as well as a safety check for possible scams. Honestly, Betoyo looked great, while Anime Bento won my suspicions. After further research, I can promise that both are real subscription boxes!

I ordered both a Betoyo Bento box and Anime Bento box for comparison, so I'll be reviewing Anime Bento once it arrives. Both services promise exclusively legal products, so there are NO bootlegs. Phew.

Betoyo is $38.00 (shipping fee included) per month.

Now, to unbox! (I recieved this box on October 14th)

Betoyo Bento comes in a plain white box with a red bow on top, as seen in the preview picture. When I opened it up...

Anime treasures!

I stalked Betoyo's Facebook page for most of the month, so going into this box I was expecting all but one capsule.

But the first item I grabbed was the small capsule I recognized. Vocaloid!

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1526.jpg

And I got the one I hoped for long ago!

Len~ ITEM #222797

In all the other unboxings I'd seen, everyone had gotten Len, so I started to think I would not get him. So perhaps Betoyo just got all the Len Gachapons. xD

However, my delight faded in a flicker.

The moment I saw him in the capsule I was beaming, until I... un-capsuled him to find what appeared to be... a bootleg (EDIT: After much thought though, I figured he wasn't, and others seem to agree)!

Betoyo promises no bootlegs. I believe them 100%. And in Len's defense, he is a capsule prize, so the quality is not a Megahouse G.E.M. or Nendoroid, BUT... the characteristics were that as described in bootlegs. Shiny/gloosy skin and rushed painting.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1504.jpg

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1514.jpg

And while this isn't necessarily a bootleg trait, Len has copywrites and stuff inscribed on the back of his head. xD Though that doesn't bother me much. I find it funny.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1516.jpg

Overall, I'm happy but disappointed too, since the pictures made them seem so perfect. xD

On to the big gachapon...

Wild Tiger! ITEM #128772

I had no clue there was going to be a Tiger and Bunny item until someone on FB posted their Origami Cyclone figure, and I coulnd't help but smile. I'm glad I finally watched T&B to fully appreiate this.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1553.jpg

For a capsule, I say it's great quality.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1554.jpg

Kotetsu wins over Len in the capsule prize contest. ^ ^;;

Onto the trading figures. I grabbed the unknown box (Macross Frontier) first and got...

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1538.jpg

Cute little Sheryl! ITEM #76430 I don't know this show or movie (this box is for a movie), but I think she's the one I liked most.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1543.jpg

She's actually pretty heavy and larger scaled for a trading figure.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1548.jpg

Naturally photogenic!

The box art is really cute too.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1540.jpg

I'm not sure if the art says who's in the box, but Sheryl's face was at the top of the group art. Hm...
EDIT: Says her name on the box. xD That answers that.

The next box was what I deemed to be the coolest item there. A mini Neon Genesis Evangelion mecha! I'm not sure if they're refered to as mechas or not, as I haven't seen Evangelion yet, but I still admire and respect it as a classic, and have it high on my anime watch list.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1531.jpg

EVA-00, with the shield and knife! ITEM #148580

I opened the last blind box before putting this one together... I gave up, after MANY attempts, on trying to get a cool pose. I feel lucky to have gotten the version with both the shield and knife, but the sheild does not want to stay. If anyone has any tips or can tell me what I'm doing wrong, please write it in the comments!

Until I tried moving EVA-00 EVER SO GENTLY moments ago, it was holding itself together like so:

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1532.jpg

Looks like it's lying now, but no, it's resting/leaning on it's stand, barely.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1534.jpg

The hand is going to pop off. And it did, when I tried moving EVA-00 ever so gently.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1536.jpg

I tried perching the shield's pole thing on EVA-00's foot, and it worked... for a short period of time. T vT

The knife hated me and EVA-00 too, but moving on.

The final box! The final box is..! From One Piece..!

I don't watch One Piece. I did when I was younger, but I never got attached to it. I decided I wanted Tony Tony Chopper since he's cute, but I ended up with...

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1522.jpg

Momonosuke! ITEM #175684

I actually completely overlooked this guy and was totally okay getting him over Chopper. xD I'm going to give him to my friend who is a big One Piece fan.

Normally Betoyo Bento comes with a snack too, but it looks like this one didn't... ooh, wait!

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1549.jpg

Everyone says there is no snack this month, but they're incorrect! The One Piece box comes with one piece of gum... HAHAHAHA!

I tried it. Very fruity, though the flavor lasted less than 2 minutes. I kept track. Also, I realized it's from 2011, as that's when this box came out. That probably explains the little ink blotches on there.

Well, it's just gum, so no harm done! I don't like gum, but still, the flavor was pleasant.

Lastly, the Betoyo Bento sticker. ^ w ^

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1559.jpg

In the past, there have been *larger* snacks or candies, a miscellaneous item(s), and more keychains, but it seems this month was all about the figures. c:

There was actually supposed to be a Sailor Moon figure as well, but due to shipping problems Betoyo had with them, they'll be in next month's box.

Here is everything I got in my Betoyo Bento, and a galactic-ly pretty boy who arrived as well. \^ w^/

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/xXxXNovaXxXx/Betoyo%20Bento%20October/IMG_1501-1.jpg

I had a lot of fun opening everything up, as well as waiting with anticipation of surprise goods inside (despite pretty much spoiling the entire box for myself). While my breath wasn't taken away by the contents, I would definitely give Betoyo Bento another go.

However, considering the price of 38 USD for some trading figures (and other small goods), I might rather save up for larger scaled figures or other items I specifically want.

In the end, I see it as a question of anticipation, thrill, and exposure, with the possible chance of disappointment, versus better prices, personal selections, and less surprises.

I do look forward to the future of both Betoyo Bento and Anime Bento. ^ ^

AvalonJane (hace 4 años) #2414436Looking at other owner photos online that just seems to be the quality of those gashapon keychains. Here's a review of the set: shop.plaza.raku...
But still a really cool service! You got some pretty cool loot! =D
I just signed up to KawaiiBox grab box service this month and I have a friend who's subscribed to ArtSnacks which is like art products every month, there seems to be so many types!

Thank you for your comment and that review. :D

I ordered a KawaiiBox, it's a great service and I think you get what you paid for, if not more. ^ ^ I hope you and your like your subscription box(es)! ^ ^ There are many choices, but I don't think all of them are worth the money. That's why it's good to either pass or just try it out. >w<;;

ANIMEKRAZY101 (hace 4 años) #2414390Usually gashapon keychains aren't that great quality though. I have a few gashapon keychains and it's pretty normal for them to inscribe the copyright on the back of the head because there isn't a better place to put them. I can't say for sure if the Len is a bootleg or not, but i've seen legit things with just as bad a paintjob.
setsunyan (hace 4 años) #2414674That Len is definitely not a bootleg. If it was it wouldn't have the copyright inscription or the flyer. It's normal quality for a gacha keychain.Riesz (hace 4 años) #2414716Len isn't a bootleg. I have the Luka strap from that series and she also has a somewhat glossy face and the paint is a bit crude.
It's a tiny keychain gashapon prize that only cost 100-200 yen, what do you expect?

Thank you all for the comments! \^w^/

I think I forgot to mention that Len just looked like a bootleg at first, but I didn't think he actually was (after thinking about it more). It's better to have second opinions though, so thank you! ^ ^

And yes, for a 100-200 yen capsule toy, this seems pretty standard. xD

angardia (hace 4 años) #2414418o.o hmmm i love grab boxes.
but this one i dont think worth the money

AP-kun (hace 4 años) #2414899I think the idea and some of the items are fun, but 38 dollara is just wayyyyy too expensive for what you get, still cute items tho!
Moro (hace 4 años) #2415012$38 for that stuff is WAY too much imo, but I'm glad you're pleased with it anyway. Actually the prices of grab boxes never seem worth the contents to me, so perhaps I'm just not the sort of person to appreciate them.
Thank you for the comments! ^ 0^/

I do agree about the price. $38 dollars for some trading figures and gachapons is pricey, especially considering the Ami Ami small grab boxes, but I wanted to try it out.

I'm skipping next box and will probably hold off on further purchases to save for items I specifically want, or for the service to advance to the level of LootCrate or even Kawaii Box.

wtf is wrong with you, go sit down in front of your computer or TV and watch it right now! You can't get a full appreciation of its importance without understanding it :>
