Bootleg Finders
This club is dedicated to finding bootlegs and preventing people from buying them. What's a bootleg? Broadly speaking, it refers to any item/media/etc. that is reproduced and sold without licensing or taxation; it is an illegal business! Many places sell bootleg figures and media because they are cheap to reproduce and have a bigger profit turnover. Sellers take advantage of both new and old collectors alike with this business. The goal of this club is to educate and prevent members of My Figure Collection from falling for bootlegs.

If you find products you think are bootlegged, are not properly marked in our database, or aren't linked here please post or let a MOD or ADM know so we can change it.

For an ongoing list of Ebay bootleg sellers please check this thread: (mfc link)

Some common signs of bootlegs and a bootleg seller:

• Price too good to be true (e.g. $40 USD for a figure that normally retails for $100-$150 USD)
• Shiny, fake plastic looking skin or parts
• Noticeable seams, details seem to be missing, parts may not be molded correctly, eyes look different than original figure
• Lack of a holographic sticker (may or may not be true, some official products lack official stickers as well)
• Jointed figures (Nendoroid, Figmas, Figuarts...) may appear loose or like they're about to fall apart
• Seller lists other known bootleg products or other large amounts of cheap merchandise (jewelry, electronics, etc.)
• Seller's username is a combination of random letters/numbers (e.g. 1327198, xmg50427867-4)
• Listing does not state the company or that the figure is legitimate. They may use phrasing such as "China version, China original, China homegrown product", terms such as "new PVC statue, PVC figure, 100% High Quality Brand New", or nothing at all

Who else does not care if mini figures are bootleg as long as they look good? I only don't want my scale figures to be bootleg. This doesn't mean I won't try to get the real small one tho XD

Hey guys Hey guys recently tracked down this figure from a hobby shop. They really boast about selling legitimate figures, and even explained when I tried to buy one before they wearn't 100% on its legitimancy and warned me but were 100% on this BRS one. The thing I'm really concerned about is the scar on the left hip. It doesn't seem to be as detailed as the ones in pictures. If someone could legit check for me that would be great.

To note though, the jacket is shiny, hobby japan sticker looks alright though I only 1 to compare it too. It has the foiling on the black rock shooter name on the front and side. the only that concerns me is the scar.

Muntoe (Hace 1 mes) #18654839Yes, there are a number of Chinese original figures available on Ebay and elsewhere. For example, picture #1703281 and [ext link ] have no known official Nendoroid or figure that looks like that yet they are advertised as Nendoroid figures. Chaoer is also an example of a company that produces original Chinese figures. They may not necessarily be considered fakes or knock-offs but they are still unlicensed.
I don't know where your Boa figure comes from. It is possible that it's truly "original" or it could be a mix of two different figures (Boa's head, someone else's body).

Thanks for the info. I was kinda thinking it could be a mix of Boa's head and someone else's body myself.

I just joined, and I finally figured out how to use the forum properly. Please see my post there to see if you can provide any insight into a potential bootleg seller.

Jville808 (Hace 1 mes) #18647480I've been coming across this figure linked below a lot lately on eBay from Chinese sellers and was looking for a "legit" version if it exists. This site has been my "go-to" site for info on figures since day one, but I can't find it on here. My question is, is there such thing as "China Only" figures, as in not being knock-offs? Can anybody shed some light as to where this figure comes from? Obviously China, but is there a legit version?

KeiraKoneko38 (Hace 3 meses) #17401030This happened to me! I was at a convention and bought a VOCALOID Good Smile blindbox. the box was legit, but I'm not 100% sure if the figure is. It looks like it is but the shines on the eyes look like they're fading, and the highlights on the hair as well.
It happened the same to me at a con and also with a Vocaloid blind box ;-;

Gazard101 (Hace 3 meses) #17728837So I was browsing through Ebay last night and came across this seller called whitesk46 They have auctions for hundreds of figurines and some are being auctioned for really cheap price some look kinda dodgy what do any of you think?
([ext link ])
There are a few sellers like this on Ebay based in Japan - most likely they buy figures in bulk/through wholesale and then resell them to make a slight profit. Most are prize figures so the price isn't too far off. I would still suggest double-checking the figures in case a bootleg somehow sneaks by but for the most part it's very unlikely.
